When You Need to Merge PDFs

Combining multiple PDF files is one of the most common document tasks in offices, government applications, and academic submissions. Common scenarios:

  • Job applications: Merging your resume, cover letter, and certificates into one file
  • Government forms: Combining the form, supporting documents, and ID proof
  • Financial reports: Merging monthly statements into a quarterly summary
  • Legal filings: Combining multiple affidavits and exhibits
  • Student submissions: Combining assignment sheets, research, and bibliography

How Lazyblink Merge PDF Works

Lazyblink merges PDFs entirely in your browser using pdf-lib — a pure JavaScript PDF library. The process:

  • Click Add Files or drag and drop multiple PDFs onto the upload area
  • See all files listed with their page counts and file sizes
  • Drag files up or down to reorder them (the order here becomes the page order in the merged output)
  • Click Merge PDFs
  • The merged file downloads automatically
  • Key advantage: Since everything runs in your browser, you can merge sensitive documents — bank statements, legal contracts, medical records — without uploading them to any server.

    Reordering Pages Before Merging

The drag-to-reorder feature in Lazyblink lets you arrange files before merging. Unlike Adobe Acrobat, which requires you to merge then reorder individual pages, Lazyblink lets you sequence entire documents upfront.

Tip: If you need to include just specific pages from a larger PDF, use the Split PDF tool first to extract those pages, then merge the extracts.

    File Size and Page Limits

Lazyblink handles PDFs up to 50MB per file and up to 20 files in a single merge session. For very large files or more than 20 files, compress each PDF first using the Compress PDF tool, which typically reduces files by 50–70%.

    Common Merge Errors and Fixes

"File is encrypted/password-protected": Use the Unlock PDF tool first to remove the password (only do this on files you own and have rights to modify).

Output is larger than the sum of inputs: This can happen with certain PDF types. Try compressing the output after merging.

Pages appear out of order: Use the drag handles in the file list to reorder before merging. Alternatively, use Split PDF to extract specific pages and re-merge.

Some pages are landscape, others portrait: Merge handles mixed orientations natively — landscape pages stay landscape in the output.

    Alternatives to Merging

Sometimes merging isn't the right approach:

    • Portfolio with bookmarks: Adobe Acrobat Pro can create a merged PDF with a table of contents and named bookmarks for each section
    • Reference document: Sometimes it's better to send files as a ZIP than to merge
    • Presentation use: For sharing in Google Drive or Dropbox, individual PDFs are easier for recipients to navigate

    After Merging: What to Check

    After downloading your merged PDF:

  • Open it and scroll through all pages
  • Check that page order is correct
  • Verify page count matches expectations
  • Check that images and formatting from all source files are intact
  • Test on a different device if the merged PDF will be shared externally
  • Frequently asked questions

    Is there a page limit?

No page limit. You can merge PDFs with hundreds of pages total.

    Does it preserve bookmarks?

Currently bookmarks from source PDFs are not preserved in the merged output.
